A new wildlife pond has been created at the bottom of the allotment site. This year we will be landscaping the area and adding more plants to the pond. We already have resident pair of ducks, frogs and newts!
A woodland walk has been created and will be further enhanced this year along with the addition of 11 hives in our apiary enclosure. NB: the products collected from the bees are sold in our shop.
We are committed to encouraging wildlife onto the allotment site. Besides the bug hotels at the bottom of the site, we would like to entice other creatures such as hedgehogs. We are placing ‘hog houses’ around the site along with mason bee homes. If you consider using slug pellets, could we please encourage you to pay just a little extra and buy organic slug pellets as the chemicals found in the normal pellets are considered to be very harmful to hogs. Organic pellets are sold in the shop.
We are delighted to be playing our part in the Winshill in Bloom competition in July of this year. This marks a wonderful milestone for us, as it will be our fifth year entering our site under the RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme. Looking back, we are immensely proud of our achievements over the years. In 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, we were honoured with the Level 5 ‘Outstanding Award’ – the highest accolade available. Each year has been a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved. We look forward to another inspiring year, continuing to help our community bloom and grow.
We will also continue to provide any surplus produce from members plot’s to Winshill Neighbourhood Resource Centre and Bee Blessed charity who use this to cater for local residents.
Spring Cleaning
To help keep the site looking its best, can we ask that you take a good look at your allotment plot and dispose of any rubbish that you are not using, items such as scrap metal, plastics, broken glass, old tools and general rubbish. This will go a long way to making the whole area look much better.
Shop
The shop re-opens for the season for the first Saturday in February and then will be open every Saturday throughout March, April, May and June. 10:30am – 12:00am. The shop is open as normal although email requests for pick-ups outside of the opening times can be sent to the Winshill Allotment email address: winshillallotments@outlook.com
Mulch
There are three mulch areas – on at the main gates, one at the bottom of the site and one next to plot 11. Please help yourself to this for your plots.
