Health and Safety Guidelines

Allotments are fun and healthy places to spend time on your own or with family and friends, but they can also have many hidden dangers and hazards. The Winshill
Allotment Association recognises that the health and safety of everyone visiting the site is paramount and so requests that all members read and understand the following Health and Safety Guidelines. Members are welcome to bring visitors on to the site but should ensure all visitors understand these guidelines.

Health and Safety
Guidelines

You should ensure your plot and other areas are free from hazards such as improperly stored sharp tools and blades, exposed nails, scrap metal and debris, etc. If using equipment and machinery be mindful of others safety as well as your own.

Members and guests should keep to their own plot areas and public use areas only.

The allotment roadways circle and cross the whole site and are for both pedestrian and vehicle use. A vehicle speed of 5 MPH or less must be observed at all times.

Members must be aware of risks and hazards on site including but not limited to slippery and uneven pathways, sharp tools and blades, debris including scrap metal, chicken wire, wood with exposed nails that will be sharp and dirty. Watch out for machinery that may be being operated on site including rotovators, mowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers. There is also a large pond situated behind plot 48 which could be particularly dangerous for unsupervised children.

Appropriate clothing and footwear should be worn at the allotments.

Children and vulnerable adults should be supervised at all times.

To ensure site security when visiting the allotments, always lock the main gate after entry and exit.

If any member has any concerns regarding health and safety whilst on site, then a member of the committee must be notified immediately via the allotment e-mail or by phone (phone numbers of committee members can be found on the noticeboard).
